Type IV collagen
Type IV collagen is the major component of the basement membrane. In fibrous liver, the basement membrane is formed in the perisinusoidal space and type IV collagen increases with the progression of liver fibrosis.
Measurement of type IV collagen in serum is effective in identifying the stages (F2 or higher, or F1 or lower) of hepatic fibrosis as well as in the diagnosis of cirrhosis.
* 7S and TH domains in type IV-collage are recognized in this test method.
