Interview

Tell us why you decided to join SEKISUI MEDICAL.

When choosing a company, I focused on two things: "being able to contribute to people's health" and "working directly with customers". As I researched various industries, I became interested in the pharmaceutical and diagnostics fields. When I was looking at internship companies on job hunting websites, Sekisui Medical caught my eye. I participated in a three-day internship for sales staff, and when I accompanied the sales staff, I was touched by the warm personalities of the employees, and I strongly felt that I wanted to work for this company. During my job search, I attended information sessions and interviews at other companies, but Sekisui Medical was the one that made me feel most strongly that I wanted to work with the employees here, so I decided to join the company.

Tell us about your current job and what makes it interesting and challenging.

Currently, I belong to Tokyo Metropolitan Area Sales Office 1 and am engaged in sales activities in Ibaraki Prefecture. A DMR (Diagnostics Medical Representative) not only introduces company products, but also gathers information on the industry and distributes technical information to medical professionals. The actual sales of products are carried out by distributors, so exchange of information with distributors is very important. I actually started my sales activities in October last year, half year after joining the company. In the beginning, I often found myself unable to answer questions from customers or carry on conversations smoothly, and I had a lot to reflect on at the end of each day. At such times, my senior colleagues, on-the-job-trainer and manager gave me words of encouragement and carefully guided me. Even when times were tough, I didn't give up and steadily visited hospitals I was assigned to, exchanging information with them, and as a result, I was able to win two new contracts in my first year. It was extremely satisfying to achieve good relationships with customers through this steady effort.

Things I'm glad I did when I was a student

One of the best things I did as a student was to focus on activities outside of the classroom. I was a member of the ice hockey club for four years in college. Ice hockey is a team sport played with skates, and is also known as martial arts on ice. We practiced at night when the ice rink was available, so it was sometimes 5 in the morning when we went home after practice. The practices were hard, and often painful. However, thanks to the four years I spent in the club, I was able to develop my mental strength, and I feel that I am able to persevere even when I am mentally stuck at work. I still keep in touch with the people I worked hard with back then and play with them in my private life. I am very happy that I was able to meet friends while I was still a student, whom I can easily consult with even after entering the workforce.

What are the points you feel proud of your office?

The sales office I belong to is located in Ariake, Tokyo. When I say, "I'm off," everyone in the office replies, "Good luck !". I am very proud of this lively sales office.

How do you spend your day off?

On my days off, I watch videos and movies, go shopping with friends, and go out to eat delicious food. I like tempura very much, on one such day, we went to a delicious tempura restaurant.
