Interview

Tell us why you decided to join SEKISUI MEDICAL

I felt a warm corporate culture from the employees I met during the interview. I was very nervous when the companies' hiring process includes numerous interviews, and I couldn't get very good results. Of course, I was just as nervous at the Sekisui Medical interview site. Meanwhile, I still remember being able to relax with a smile from the personnel staff of Sekisui Medical at that time. The content of the work is one of the reasons for choosing it, but I think it is also important to have a feeling such as "If there are such warm people, the workplace must be easy to work in as well!".

Tell us about your current job and what makes it interesting and challenging.

For about a year and a half after I joined the company, I was still working on peptide synthesis as I did in the laboratory. Currently, I am working on the purification of peptides after synthesis. The synthesized peptides contain many impurities, which need to be removed as much as possible. These impurities have very similar properties and are quite small in quantity, so they cannot be removed in a straightforward manner. We analyze from various angles and discuss with the synthesis team to find out what is being made and, conversely, how it cannot be made. Refining under various conditions and following the data and figures in detail to the next step may seem like a very dull task. However, it is definitely a rewarding experience when you achieve the removal of impurities through hard work.

Things I'm glad I did when I was a student

A part-time job at a cram school. I did not work as a teacher, but rather as a salesperson, giving guidance to students and meeting with their parents in order to sell video lessons. High school students were easy to talk to because they were close in age, but when it came to their parents, it was sometimes difficult to get along. In the beginning, I was not very good at communicating with them, but this gradually improved as I spent about six years in a part-time environment. When you become a member of society, you have more opportunities to talk with people of various ages. Thanks to my part-time experience, I believe I am able to communicate with people at work without any inconvenience. Of course, it doesn't have to be a job at a cram school, but if you have an experience that helps you improve your communication skills, you will be able to work more smoothly!

What are the points you feel proud of your office?

The office building was just built a few years ago, so it's new and beautiful. There is also a new tennis court in the back of the building, where you can exercise and refresh yourself during lunch break.

How do you spend your day off?

After work on weekdays, I play basketball near my house. By moving my body and working up a sweat, I can reset my thoughts and go into the next day's work with a refreshed mind.
