Tell us why you decided to join SEKISUI MEDICAL.

I decided to join the company because I was attracted by the company's culture, which allowed me to take on various challenges, even in fields I had no experience in. When job hunting, I was looking for a company where I could attempt various things and grow through research and development. Since SEKISUI MEDICAL has three main businesses in the medical field, I thought I could experience a variety of development work. Responsibilities at the Analytical Technology Center for Drug Development would be almost completely new to me. However, the kind and sincere attitude of employees at the interview made me think that I could take on all kinds of challenges here, and I decided to join the company.

Tell us about your current job and what makes it interesting and challenging.

In SEKISUI MEDICAL's drug development solutions business, we are entrusted with tests conducted by numerous pharmaceutical companies and research institutions. At the Analytical Technology Center for Drug Development, we are developing new measurement systems using our own proprietary technologies in order to achieve highly precise and accurate testing. Among them, I am developing a measurement system a next-generation drug, a new form of drug that is different from conventional products. What is rewarding is when the developed system is adopted and actually tested. The development work at the Analytical Technology Center for Drug Development is unique in that we have many opportunities to meet directly with customers, conduct interviews, and share experimental data. Being able to directly listen to the customer's voice motivates me even more. When I receive words of appreciation from customers that I provided the the data they needed, I feel I have been able to help their drug development, which is very rewarding.

Gaps you felt after joining the company.

One positive gap was being able to hear directly from our customers. As I mentioned earlier, we have many opportunities to meet directly with customers within our work. Before I joined the company, I imagined that I would learn about the needs of customers through the sales staff and reflect them in the development process. However, by being able to hear directly from customers, I feel that I am able to have a deeper perspective of development, which enhances quality. On the other hand, a bad gap is the lack of interaction with other departments. In my case, I have very few opportunities to interact with other departments in my regular work, and my knowledge of other business units such as diagnostics is limited. Currently, I am deepening my interaction with people from other departments outside of my regular work through activities such as being on the editorial board of an R&D/Production site in-house newsletter. One thing that has not been a gap after joining the company is the good character of the employees and I myself too try my best to help the people around me in my daily work.

What are the points you feel proud of your office?

The cherry blossoms. The road in front of the office is lined with cherry trees, signaling the arrival of spring. Also, the reservoir right next to the office is surrounded by cherry trees, and the contrast between the pink of the cherry blossoms in full bloom and the blue sky over the reservoir is a sight to behold.

How do you spend your day off?

I often enjoy a whiskey soda in the evening and sometimes go to distillery tours. In the future, I would like to travel to Islay in the UK, famous for producing whiskey.
