About IL-2R

What is sIL-2R? (Soluble-Interleukin-2-Receptor)

  • Interleukin-2-Receptor (IL-2R) is a protein that is expressed on the cell surface of T and B cells upon activation of by antigen stimulation. IL-2R is composed of 3 chains, alpha, beta, and gamma.
  • sIL-2R are alpha chains of the IL-2R which have been cleaved by protease and released into blood.
  • sIL-2R value is primarily reflects the degree of T-cell activation.

Clinical Significance

  • Measuring soluble Interleukin-2 Receptor (sIL-2R) can be useful in the aid-in-diagnosis of Non-Hodgkin lymphoma and ATL (adult T-cell leukemia-lymphoma) as well as for the follow-up of patients who have been diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin lymphoma or ATL (adult T-cell leukemia-lymphoma).
  • Non-Hodgkin lymphoma and ATL cannot be diagnosed solely with sIL-2R. sIL-2R has mostly been evaluated for its clinical usefulness as a marker for disease activity.
