Reference Data (2)

Information obtained using Cholestest LDL

LDL-C is specified as a target value in the primary preventative guidelines for ischemic heart disease of the Japanese Circulation Society, as well as the Japan Atherosclerosis Society.

This product allows measurement unaffected by dietary conditions

Friedwald formula
Cholestest LDL

Whereas the data obtained using the Friedwald formula (F-formula) are affected by diet because it uses TG values, the data obtained using Cholestest LDL are not.
(Sugano,T.et al: Medicine and Pharmacology, 37, 635, 1997)

Accurate measurement is possible even for TG values of 400 mg/dL and higher-Example (1)

Type V hyperlipidemia (age 52, male)
LDL-C Cholestest LDL 64mg/dL
F-formula -5.2mg/dL
TG Enzymatic method 886mg/dL

A high TG value produced a negative result in the F-formula in Example 1 above. Cholestest LDL can accurately determine such high values.
(Excerpt from Case 2 of Case Report for Lipid Examination, supervised by Professor Hiroshige Itakura)

Accurate measurement is possible even for TG values of 400 mg/dL and higher - Example (2)

LDL-C Cholestest LDL 83mg/dL
F-formula 176mg/dL
Ultracentrifugation method 75mg/dL
TG Enzymatic method 427mg/dL

Chylomicron remnants were detected in the agarose electrophoresis in Example 2 above. Cholestest LDL can make accurate measurements even in the presence of chylomicron remnants.
(Excerpt from Case 3 of Case Report for Lipid Examination, supervised by Professor Hiroshige Itakura)

Results directly reflect decreases in LDL-C of patients in therapy

Type Ⅱa Hyperlipidemia

Because an antihyperlipidemic drug lowers LDL-C and increases HDL-C, a reduction of LDL-C is not reflected in the T-CHO values. Variations in LDL-C values are not reflected in the F- formula because of the effects of TG. Decrease in LDL-C values is directly reflected in the Cholestest LDL results.

LDL particle size can be estimated

As LDL contains one molecule of apo B, its particle size may be estimated from the ratio of LDL-C to apo B (when LDL-C/apo B is 1:2, there is a high probability that small particles exist).

Although apo B also exists in VLDL, the majority (more than 90%) is contained in LDL. Because the small particle LDL is easily oxidized, it causes coronary artery disease at a rate three times higher than other LDL, and therefore is considered to be the worst type of "bad" cholesterol.
